INTASC #4: Instructional Strategies

INTASC Principle #4: The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students’ development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.

INTASC #4 Interpretation: I understand that using a variety of instructional strategies is a must to assure I reach all of my students in my classroom. Having my students develop critical thinking, problem solving and do well on performance skills means I must as their teacher teach them how to go about learning and understanding these techniques.

I choose to put my self evaluation that I did on a lesson plan because I believe it is important for teachers to take the time to reflect on their teaching practices so that they can assess themselves. Are they reaching their students? Are their students learning the objectives they set for them? What methods are the teachers using to assess what the students have learned? These are valid questions that teachers must ask themselves in order to be effective teachers who can reach all their students.
